First impressions…

Is there an app to purge beta readers of all knowledge of your novel, so they can read an altered version with fresh eyes? I was thinking beating them with a large stick might help, but apparently that’s frowned upon. Damn…

A little before I’d intended, I sent a copy of my novel to one agent as they had a limited submission window. – I was delighted by the ‘near miss’ personal rejection I received, but it was still me being told ‘no’. – Yes, reacting on a sample size of one, and reworking my book may have been an overreaction, but that’s why I’m now looking for new betas to cast fresh eyes on my opening chapters, and decide whether it reads better with or without prologue & additional chapter.

The hook, quite powerful in chapter one, has less impact with the addition of prologue, but does the value of the opening thousand words mitigate the loss? I have no idea, and I’m thinking myself into an endless series of brain farts.

Right, I’m off to find a darken room where I can whimper and gibber in peace…
